I think I may have found the bugaboo.  There was a mapped drive that could not be located; when explorer.exe was loading, it got hung up trying to find it.  Eventually, the OS loaded; I found the registry entry for the drive, deleted it and restarted.  The parent machine came up in no time flat.  I've taken a snap shot and will recompose the pool against it.  We shall see what comes of it! 

Every time I try to use VSM I'm unable to connect. It worked earlier in October and suddenly stopped working which I only noticed when I needed to download something. I've been doing a VM lab on my system running VM Workstation 12 Pro. I was using VSM 1.5 and later tried 1.4 just to see if it was the version. I am running Windows 10x64. I have performed the following steps:

1. Uninstalled VSM 1.5, Restarted my computer, re-installed VSM 1.5

2. Uninstalled VSM 1.5, Restarted my computer, installed VSM 1.4

3. Turned off Windows Firewall for Private and Public Connections

4. Cleared Browsing History in IE/Edge Browsers

5. Reset Hosts file to Windows default and ran "ipconfig /flushdns"

6. Uninstalled OpenVPN Client (my VPN client to ensure it wasn't causing some kind of conflict with its TAP adapter)

7. Disabled all VMware Network Adapters

8. Verified I have no proxy settings configure in IE and my Windows 10 client is setup as a DHCP client with automatic settings for IP addressing and DNS

9. Checked the logs files in %APPDATA%Roaming\VMware\Software Manager\Download Service\Logs. Within the "stdout-vapi_server.log" file there are the following entries (if relevant):

What version of Mac OS are you running, have you tried disabling 3D acceleration

in Virtual Machine> Settings...> Display, and uncheck Accelerate 3D graphics.

Hello,

We would like to take advantage of beacon probing so we can avoid a switch mis-configuration causing a loss of VLAN connectivity on a network link. Currently our servers have two 10 GigE NICs and four 1 GigE NICs. Does anyone have experience with mixing uplinks on vSwitches? My thought is to have the 10 GigE links as active and the 1 GigE links on standby, all contributing to beacon probes.

Is that a valid solution? I understand that it is not ideal, but addtional 10 GigE NICs in our servers are not in the budget right now.

I am experiencing the same issue after upgrading to macOS Sierra. I tried to re-install the software and running disk utility but it still doesn't work. It would be very helpful if someone can look at the attached support information and provide some pointers.

I recently upgraded from macOS Yosemite to Sierra and since then I have been getting the above error when I power up virtual machines using Fusion 8. I tried to reinstall it several times, restarted my computer and also run disk utility but nothing seems to work. Based on other threads, I have attached the support information. Not sure how much help anyone can provide from from it.

Any help is much appreciated!

1. Please zip and share the entire log directory (i.e. C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\VMware\Software Manager\Download Service\Logs) with us for further investigation.

2. This seems a proxy setting related issue on your setup. Could you go through "Configure HTTP Proxy Setting" section in the User's Guide (at http://pubs.vmware.com/vmware-software-manager/topic/com.vmware.software-manager.download-service/GUID-EC9F13CC-2146-434B-8090-F3D06BAC5761.html) to double check your IE settings?

   Also, could you try with a different browser (e.g. Chrome or Firefox) to see if the same issue remains?

3. FYI - According to the User's Guide, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 are currently supported. Windows 10 is not officially supported.

the clusters (host's) you are trying to balance between must have shared vMotion vLans, VM Network, Storage and have CPU compatibility otherwise it will fail to move VM's in vCenter. (it will perform some checks before) ---> from the msg below it looks like the VM has a disk on a datastore that the destination host does not share...

I cant remember 100% but I think the "rebalance container" will only online vMotion between hosts and not between datastore's to balance the clusters...

Try to manually move in vCenter one of the VM's as suggested in 'rebalance container' and see what compatibility check messages you get.

Hi,

The vSphere replication will be asynchronous as this is the only option. The array based replication can be synchronous assuming you have the bandwidth and latency requirements.

No - storage will have absolutely no idea what is going on in regards to replication within the VMs or rather at the host layer. The only conflict you will have is deciding which one to recover from. Of course I don't understand your business requirements but it seems you are unnecessarily complicating matters by running two replication technologies at the same time. Could understand if you have one going to a completely different array (using host based replication) and the primary copy using SRDF but not sure your objective here with both going to the same array?

hey man, i wracking my brain on the same issue. here is how i fixed it. removed the sound card completely out of settings, for the VM. then loaded into the VM and added the USB device back... audio works crystal clear now... great for sip....  I know it might be too late for you, but for anyone else this worked on workstation pro 12.x  host was windows 10 pro and vm was windows 10 pro, used multiple USB audio devices in test all worked.

I want to be able to boot into my linux installs from Windows 10 (raw disk).  I have tried setting it up to the best of my educated guessingness but I am not getting past boot up (getting intel pxe boot install of grub bootloader). 

Here is my setup:

750GB SSD SATA primary drive with only Windows 10 installed (should also have the grub bootloader)

2TB HDD secondary SATA drive with a 1.5 TB NTFS "data" partition and the remaining space split between Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Kali and the linux swap.

With a raw disk setup with access to only the HDD I could only get an intel pxe boot which went nowhere.  When i tried to also give the VM access to the first 2 small partitions on the SSD, theoretically giving it access to the bootloader for it to use, I get an access error "Physical disk already in use...cannot open the disk Z:\(the HDD)......vdmk or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.  Module "disk" power on failed"

Any ideas or can someone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting...

Thanks, the Consolidation task works. But in this activity i have note that theres some VMDK on the Datastore that is not being used by any of the Disks Existing on the VM.

Coming from Virtual Box where I always used bridged networking on all kinds of hardware/OS combinations without any issues this is really boggling to me

Part of this is probably because Virtual Box is strictly written in C and C++. This helps with compatibility issues immensely. VMware Workstation is written in "code stew", so it tends to be more error prone. However, VMware Workstation also has more enterprise features than Virtual Box. An example of an enterprise feature that I'm currently using on a weekly basis is "Shared Virtual Machines" feature of Workstation. This allows me to access virtual machines on my host computer from any computer that has Workstation installed to it. The advantages of this over Remote Desktop is that I can change the settings of my Virtual Machine at any time. I can increase or decrease the RAM, expand the virtual Hard Drive, and anything else that I can as if the host was right in front of me! This is an incredibly useful feature, and is one of the many reasons I use VMware Workstation over Virtual Box (another reason being their fantastic 3D engine. Virtual Box can't even touch their 3d engine!).

Don't jump to conclusions too quickly now. Remember my post above? I thought the same thing myself, and I quote:

And all that time it was actually the Bitdefender Firewall! So don't make the same mistake I did and dismiss it as a wireless driver issue. You never know just what it is until you actually get it working.

The "smart multi-homed name resolution" tweak didn't make any difference

Even if that doesn't make any difference, I'd still leave that tweaked due to the fact that smart multi-homed name resolution puts you at significant risk at being DNS hijacked. It's practically a security vulnerability programed directly into Windows 10!

Sorry I couldn't help you get your problem solved. Sorry the rest of the community couldn't help you either. One thing you can try before buying Tech Support is Private Messaging a VMware Employee. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll help you. Maybe they'll yell at you and tell you you're "abusing" the PM system. Who knows, but it's better than not trying at all. Would you please confirm the horizontal scroll works fine in Excel 2016 on a physical Windows Notebook like Surface Pro or other similar model? I ever tried it on a Dell Notebook with built-in touchpad, and I was unable to scroll in Excel 2016 horizontally as well.

The command key + left click in Fusion behaves as the scroll-wheel click action in a mouse. I did test it in Excel 2016 and it can scroll both horizontally and vertically.
