3 CPU hungry VMs -Resource Pool Preference.
Hello,
I have read a fair amount of information about resource pools but I am struggling with this example. Can anyone give me a quick walkthrough on how to accomplish this.
At a remote site we have a single ESX cluster of three host that have 40 logical procs and about 30 VMs
3 of the 30 Vms have been giving 40 procs each. (these are indexing type machines that use all 40 procs 100% of the time)
What we would like to do is:
These 3 VMs can each use their 40 procs and max them out all the time when there is no contention or other VMs are not in use. However the second any other VM needs even a sliver of CPU the 3 VM hogs need to take a back seat and give it up.
Basically i want these 3 VMs to run wild until someone else needs CPU. Does that mean every VM in the cluster needs to go into one of two pools? 1 pool that consist of the 3 VM hogs and a 2nd pool of all the others? Then we define CPU shares on each pool?
In short. 3 ESX host with 30 vms. We want one vm on each host that can take 100% of the CPU on the entire host. However the second another vm wants cpu it lets it go.
Im a reading this correclty?

Re: ESXi6 Boot Stuck on swapobjd Start
So if anybody else has this .
I disabled swapobjd , it appears to be vSan related , the next servicer got stuck , USB Arbitrator , then disabled that one , then vpxa got stuck , so clearly , this is not the real cause .
Ended up it was a misplaced core dump location , fixed that ,reserved SCSI IDs for pRDMs and host is booting in like 5 mins now .

I did some testing and everything works when I log in to my default tenant that is using the embedded vRO. If I change to external vRO it doesn't work.
EDIT: Did some more testing and my other external vRO works fine. The only diffrence is that the vRO that does not work has vCloud Director and F5 Plugins installed and I try to browse the actions I find these entries in the vra log file:

Good morning, with all flash you can enable compression and dedupe. The dedupe should help when things don't compress well. Hybrid vs All-flash VSAN, are we really getting close? - Yellow Bricks
If you're Cisco committed, the Nexus switches you mention would be great. I was in your camp once, but the Dell... They are really great for the vSAN case.
As another post said the vSAN health monitor will trip, but... I would not rely on it. I would setup a separate vCenter alert to monitor space on the vSAN datastore. And, if possible, setup a check through a third party. We us ActiveXperts.

Re: Office 2013 Settings not being retained

I had enabled Direct Flex as it appears that when UEM executes, the AppStack containing Office2013 is not ready. I see the following in the debug log:

However, settings made in Abobe Acrobat, Windows Explorer and Wordpad have all been retained

Hello Bonnie, I do have the same problem after upgrade from 12.5 to 12.5.1.
USB Arbitration DO NOT start with Error 2: Impossible to find the specified file (I translate from not english language, so it is something like that, I think it is clear).
I looked at the service property and I find it point to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VMware\USB\vmware-usbarbitrator64.exe"
Then in my localized system that file is in "C:\Programmi (x86)\Common Files\VMware\USB\vmware-usbarbitrator64.exe"
I think the problem is this. Then it was never introduced before upgrade to 12.5.1. Worked fine with 12.5 and versions before.
Now I'm wondering how to fix this problem without messin up with my system folder trees.
Let me know how to fix it if you can.

It seems that this part of vRA code does not handle properly the space characters (in your log samples, see 'VIM Server' and 'vApp Template'), hence you got these exceptions 'cannot make uri...'. The space (and other special characters) need to be escaped/encoded when used in URLs.
Looks like a bug in vRA to me. I'll open a PR to track it.

How have you determined Enhanced Link Mode is not working?
If you have 2 external PSC's in the same SSO domain (vsphere.local) but in different sites (Site A and Site B), your vCenter (VCSA or Windows) in Site A is pointing to the PSC in Site A, and the vCenter (VCSA or Windows) in Site B is pointing to the vCenter in Site B. Then that is a supported linked mode configuration and it should be working OOTB.
There is no need to have additional PSCs to each site.

IT WORKS!
I renamed all the vCloud Director action folders with 'spaces' to ones with no spaces and that fixed my problem. I think this will break something in the vCloud Director Plugin. So either the VCD plugin should be fixed not to have spaces or vRA should be fixed to handle the spaces...

Re: PowerCLI script to gather Virtual Machine installed software
Currently we are connecting directly to the VM and running the script to gather the data. Cumbersome and extremely time consuming to say the least. Is there a way to gather this with PowerCLI connected to the respective Datacenter? I have PowerCLI scripts that I have set as Templates to use the Task Scheduler, Cashed Administrator Creds, and send the output to me via e-mail. All I need it the meat and potatoes of the script to plug in the middle
