Re: Converter failing with: The operation experienced a network error

Not sure, but I experienced "network issues" in the past, and they were related to DNS resolution, where the target ESXi host's name couldn't be resolved. Adding an entry to the hosts file solved the issue.

If this doesn't help in your case, check the entries of the converter's "worker" log file, to see whether this contains more detailed information about the issue.

Re: VSAN Disk Groups - easy one..

Greetings!

Fortunately VSAN is not like traditional RAID Groups. That means, as per your scenario, you can have your Disk Group B with 1 SSD and 5 HDDs.

Regarding your query - "I am unsure if the number of HDDs contributed has to be equal for each disk group." The answer is - It is not necessary that number of HDDs contributed has to be equal for each disk group.

You may want to read in detail about this on blog post - Using differently sized disks in a VSAN environment

Also, It is recommended to follow VMware® Virtual SAN™ 6.2 Design and Sizing Guide

Thanks for the reply. I don't believe that is my issue because I used the IP address to connect to the vCenter Server on two of the host servers and the other server that's on v6 of ESXi I used it's host name which was resolved thru DNS.

Re: VMware View Persona 6.2 to UEM 9.1 Migration, UEM Folder Redirection Error

Also, when running UEM and Persona side by side, I noticed that if users log off and happen to log in back to the same VM, the redirected folders are deleted and new ones are created. To avoid this I had to setup "Refresh VMs Immediately" when users log off. I think it has something to with the profile type.

We had to disable Persona Management and also we assigned persistent disk to each VDI user for their profile which takes care of it and it runs flawless and no lagging

Initially we are seeing this same behavior.  Just trying to configure this for the first time today (with CPA).  Did you find a way to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know In floating pool is it possible that the user gets unassigned automatically when they log off from the VDI so we can use the same VDI for another user..?

Thanks

You have more than one physical NIC in your vSwitch and are working with VLANs? If yes, check if the physical switch configuration is identical for both uplink ports.

The recent WS-versions dont work with vmrun as expected.
Using 12.01 for example the "deleteVM" function appears to be an invalid option.
Shawn - do you know if 12.5.1 is a "serious" version ? - dont want to risk my current 12.0.1 setup which still works quite acceptable.

fusion 8.5.1 osx 10.11.6 host windows 10 guest, intermittent hangs related to networking.

Two problems that might be related.  The problem associated with the attached log has something to do with opening the network box from the system tray.  periodically when I am trying to get access to network information from the windows-10 gui, the guest hangs, vm process on the host spins cpu.  I can use the vm controls to forcibly shut the vm down, but suspending and resuming doesn't jog the vm out of the state.  I've left it for hours thinking it would come back and it doesn't.  The problem report was taken after the hang started.

Additionally, in spite of setting the vm boot settings to boot from the vm harddrive, if I have network devices attached to the vm during boot, windows will just sit at the boot spin screen forever.

Also, vmware fusion shared folders seem to be flaky when I use them to build code on windows-10 guests as well as osx-10.8 guests, and I notice that this feature is touted as specifically benefitting this arrangement, for which there seem to be numerous problems.  Anyone else seeing the same things?

Thanks,

Josh

Cannot get full screen in vsphere 5.5

It's been a while since I've logged in and I need to create a new VM but when I go t the console tab I can only see about 30% of the screen. Going to full screen mode by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Enter gets me the same result. I can't even setup the OS because I cannot see the lower portion of the screen to see Next, or enter the key. What can I check or do?

Also my mouse when I click into the VM (any of them) the tracking is way off.

Did you tried right click the virtual machine and click Open Console?

I'm assuming you tried the "Launch console" button instead of the tab?  Then try a "fit vm to screen".  You can also see if the webui scales a little better.

Yea I've tried that but it's the same. As for the web client, we're locked out of it at the moment. the creds for vcenter aren't working anymore.

Web client would use the same creds. as the thick client.  So whatever user account you are showing in your SS should work also.

I have the same issue.

Not a linked clone, but cloned image

Others will stay powered off.

Pool Settings:

Remote Machine Policy - take no action

Automatic logoff after disconnect - Never

Image settings

Options

- vApp Options - disabled

- VM Tools - Power Controls" Shutdown, suspend, power on, restart - buttons - default and same as other desktop

- VM Tools - Scripts all checked

- VM Tools Advance - none checked

- Power Management

  • - How should the virtual machine respond when the guest OS is placed on standby?
    • selected 'Put the guest OS into standby mode and leave the virtual machine powered on"
    • wake on LAN for virtual machine traffic - checked Network adapter

General - Normal

Boot Options - Normal boot - nothing checked

Same setting all the way through for problem image when compared to one that will shutdown

Same pool

Once down - a minute or two later, the account for the view connection server initiates a start up.

thoughts?

MS Windows 10, 64bit

Update - I granted myself entitlement to this desktop, logged in with my regular account, went through the windows setup process, then logged out/shutdown.

this appears to have corrected the issue.

It may have been that the win10 machine want to complete a build process.

We have one password. Works for the Vsphere app but not the web client. Going to try restarting the vCenter Appliance
